Are my videos uploaded or stored?

No. Standard compression runs inside your browser. VideoShrink has no video-upload API for this workflow, so your video is not retained for hours or sent to a processing queue.

Which video formats can I compress?

The file picker accepts MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, MKV, AVI, MPEG, WMV, FLV, 3GP, TS, MTS and M2TS. Actual decoding support depends on the codecs inside the file and your browser.

Can I choose the final file size?

Yes. Target-size mode converts your limit and video duration into a bitrate with a small safety margin. Final size can still vary because encoders and MP4 metadata are not perfectly predictable.

How do I keep better video quality?

Start with Balanced. Quality presets use CRF-style encoding and may exceed the estimated reduction rather than destroy detail. Choose 1080p when text or faces matter, or H.265 when your browser supports it and playback compatibility is not critical.

What is the fastest compression setting?

Use Auto resolution and a modern Chrome or Edge browser. VideoShrink will select the fastest available local engine. Files whose source codec is not supported by the browser must use the slower compatibility engine.

Can I use VideoShrink on a phone?

Yes for practical short clips. Mobile browsers have tighter memory limits, so long recordings and 4K footage are more reliable on a desktop or laptop.

Will compression reduce quality?

Lossy video compression always trades some detail for a smaller file. The presets make that trade-off explicit, and you can preview the compressed result before downloading it.

What format will I download?

VideoShrink creates an H.264 MP4 by default. Browsers with a supported H.265 hardware encoder can choose H.265 for better compression efficiency. Your original file remains unchanged.
